The Town of Ashland seeks qualified, experienced, and energetic candidates for the position of Light Equipment Operator in the Highway Division within the Department of Public Works.
Salary Range: Grade H03 $23.4302/hr. - $25.7102/hr, DOQ
*Full range for H03 is ($23.4302/hr – $31.3865/hr)
**Upon successful completion of probation and the required licensing listed below, the range can move to Grade H04 $25.1533/hr - $33.5161/hour.
Additional opportunities for growth may exist if the candidate already has licensing, or upon receipt of licensing, which may allow the candidate to move into grade H04, which starts at $25.1533/hr. (The full range of H04 is $25.1533/hr - $33.5161/hour.)
PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
This position primarily performs work related to construction and maintenance of municipal roadways under the supervision of the Working Foreman.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following list is descriptive of the position but is not intended to be restrictive or limiting. The position requires the following essential functions:

Drive or operate vehicles and equipment engaged in construction, maintenance, snow removal, and various other projects and activities.

Repair and construct streets, sidewalks, signs, fences, drainage infrastructure.

Works with small engine equipment as well as hand tools.

Service and follow preventative maintenance on equipment or vehicles being operated such as checking oil, water and battery levels, tire pressure, etc.

Performs all other duties as assigned by the Working Foreman.
This position is required to be available for all snow operations and any other emergencies during or outside regular work hours.
ATTRIBUTES AND QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduation or equivalent plus a minimum of one to three years in municipal public works operation preferred. Additionally, candidates must be able to:

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, coworkers, and the general public.

Communicate effectively, confirming understanding if direction is given.

Understand and properly operate tools and equipment.

Understand and follow all safety procedures related to job responsibilities.

The position is required to lift objects weighing as much as 50 pounds.
LICENSES
Massachusetts Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with air brake endorsement and Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer with 2A/ 1C Endorsement within six months of employment; Competent Certification within 6 months of employment. Must apply for a permit for the CDL within 30 days of hire date.
The Light Equipment Operator is a full-time, 40 hour/week, non-exempt position represented by the DPW Union. Salary is based on the chart in the collective bargaining agreement for grade H03, which ranges from $23.4302/hr. - $25.7102/hr
